I don’t love God.
Not like I want to.
Not like I need to.
Not like I’m going to.
I want God to be like oxygen to me …a necessity and the essence of what keeps me breathing, living and moving. I want reckless abandon with Jesus. I want to be a heretic for God like Jesus. I don’t think Jesus set out to be a heretic … he so loved God and people that as that love flowed out of his life he naturally contradicted the religious status quo.
Kristyn is definitely my better side. After more than 20 years of marriage … I love her even more than when we got married. My kids are amazing too. Of course, I may be prejudiced. Jeremiah (17), Madeleine (15), Micah (12) and Seth (9). We love being together and I especially love it when we’re outside together. I’m going to be wrecked next year when Jeremiah goes off to college. Be careful … if you ask me about my kids or parenting be ready to “have a listen,” as my wife would say.
Life purpose: To live my life intertwined with the lives of others so that whether they choose to follow God or not they will know that a prophet has been among them. Ezekiel 2:3ff (BFT)
I like questions. I like big questions … questions without easy answers. If you hang out with me I’ll ask you questions. If you hang out with me a lot then I’ll ask a lot of questions.
Some books I love:
- Bruchko by Bruce Olson
- Assassin’s series, Liveship series and Fool series by Robin Hobb
- To Kill A Mockingbird by Harper Lee
- Speaker for the Dead by Orson Scott Card
Some movies I love:
- The Princess Bride
- Chariots of Fire
- The Matrix
- Shawshank Redemption
- A River Runs Through It
- Good Will Hunting
- While You Were Sleeping
At the end of the day, being followers of Jesus boils down to two things: love God and love your neighbor. It’s all about loving God and being in community. If we don’t achieve that then we’re just playing games. And real community gets messy sometimes. Welcome to Mosaic.
