The term mosaic implies a style of artistic composition that takes shattered pieces and combines them into a image of cohesive beauty. We are shattered people who are being reformed by God into a community of cohesive beauty. We are all in this process together, as a family. Some of us have an intimate relationship with Jesus, some want to learn how to grow deeper in their walk with Jesus, and some of us don't know him at all. We are creative explorers on the fringes of our culture, both secular and sacred. We want our worship to express the full breadth and depth of our ancient-future faith. We use both contemporary elements and ancient liturgy to create an atmosphere of transcendent ambiance. Aesthetics are important to us in forms of writing, visual, performance, auditory, kinesthetic, olfactory, and culinary arts, and we aren't afraid of mystery, antiquity, ambiguity, culture, aesthetic expression, truth, authentic community, purpose, meaning, grace, hope, peace, love, or joy. We are trying to serve as bridge-builders and peacemakers between the postmodern matrix and the dogma of orthodox Christianity. We are echoes of an eternal faith rooted in the person of Jesus Christ and the lifestyle and worldview that he initiated. Our services are as likely to include an ancient chant in candlelight as a discussion of a film clip from The Matrix. We have diverse backgrounds, personalities, philosophies, ideas and visions that are united by a relationship with Christ. We are caught in a dynamic tension between God and a world at odds with its creator. We see Jesus as our model: teacher, provocateur, caregiver, and sacrifice. We look for the holy balance between holiness and liberty, as a community of conviction and as individuals of differing conscience. We also long to have fun, frivolity, and fellowship permeate our family. We understand Jesus walked around "with a bottle of wine, a bucket of wings, and hung out with "sinners"". We follow him unapologetically, knowing that the religious establishment was his greatest foe, calling him a "drunkard, glutton, and friend of sinners." To this we happily say, "amen." We follow Jesus in everything he did and we are willing to take our lumps for it. We want our community to be full of grit, reality, authenticity, and vulnerability. We are trying to deeply integrate our lives together as a family of faith. Jesus definition of legitimate Christianity is this: "They will know you are Christians by your love for one another." And he doesn't make it optional. Instead, he says "a new command I give you, that you love one another as I have loved you." We believe that reality (the cosmos as a whole), individuals, and communities have been designed by their creator for a specific purpose and with a specific meaning. In terms of reality, we seek to understand and navigate the difference between the desires of God and "The Matrix" mentality of self-defeating slavery. In terms of individuality, we seek to grow in Christ-likeness of heart, body, mind, and spirit. As a community, we seek to become a family that deeply loves God, each other, ourselves, and our enemies.
